Cyber

Self-Defense

Jeremy Keila, martial arts instructor and technology specialist, com-bines his knowledge of these two arts to equip kids and parents with the tools and know-how to stay safe on-line.

Parents will learn to teach children at an early age safe computer practices that will develop strong skills to recognize danger and avoid conflict. Personal information protection, predator avoidance, cyber bullying and cell phone awareness are some of the topics that will be discussed. Further discussion will be led by Student Resource Officer Joel Kutz, sharing his expertise and first hand middle school cyber-world experiences.

The program is open to all, but geared toward adults. Parents of kids of all ages are encouraged to attend. Cyber bullying can have devas-tating effects. Prepare your kids to never bully and to know what to do if they are bullied. Giving children the tools to defend themselves is one of the best steps a parent can take.

What is happening this Fall at Madison !!

October 2011 PTA Newsletter

Happy October Madison Families!

Fall always brings great events in Wisconsin…changing leaves, Packer Games and this year Brewers Play-Off Games!  Our PTA has some exciting events planned, too!  Watch your Thursday folders for information on these upcoming PTA events:

·         October 11- 14th          Scholastic Book Fair

·         October 13                   PTA Meeting (6:30)

·         October 19                   Fundraiser Pick Up (3:30 – 5:30)

·         November 4th               Madison Dance/Creative Crafts (6:00 – 8:30)

We had an AMAZING turn out for our first PTA meeting on Thursday, September 15th.  Gina Marino, the new Spanish Teacher spoke to us about the new foreign language program she is implementing at Madison Elementary.  ¡Gracias maestra Marino!

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Mr. Z’s Fundraiser, which ended on September 19th.  Thank you to our fundraiser chairs, Nicki and Michael Scharf.  We are waiting on numbers to see how well we did.  If you missed the fundraiser, you can still make a donation directly to the PTA.  Checks can be made payable to Madison School PTA and dropped off in the office.

Please take a moment to stop by the front entrance of the school and see the new landscaping.  The Beautification Committee, with funding from the Madison School PTA, designed and implemented the project this past summer. Great job, it looks wonderful!

Thank you to Lynn Wilke for heading up the Madison Elementary spirit wear sale. Once we receive our spirit wear, we will begin having spirit days where students, staff and parents can show our school spirit by wearing our Madison Mustang gear.  We are planning another sale before the end of the year if you missed out on the first one.  Samples are on display outside the gym.

A thank you also goes to Karen Fish for chairing the Summer Reading Program.  Students that completed the reading log received a gift certificate for the Scholastic Book Fair.

If you haven’t already, please join our great Madison School PTA. Only members get to vote on how the PTA raises and spends its funds, plus members also receive the invaluable school directory. The dues are $10.00 for a single membership and $13.00 for a family membership. For a registration form, please contact our VP of Membership, Karla Creed at 414-807-1154 or kbcreed@att.net. We would like to work toward “going GREEN,” to save coping and paper costs, so please provide your e-mail address on the membership registration form and join us on Facebook (Madison Elementary School PTA) for immediate information and updates.

We are also looking for people to “chair “or “co-chair” (lead, organize and execute) fundraisers, events, and programs for the school year. If you are interested, please contact our VP of Committees, Wendi Kaiser, at 414-465-0161 or wkaiser1@sbcglobal.net. Please get involved and help us keep the events and programs that our children love and benefit from!
