Inclusiveness in Your Schools

The PTA speaks for all children; your membership should be representative of the kinds of parents at your school . . .

What does Membership Inclusion Mean?

Is your PTA inclusive?  Does your membership and your board reflect the diversity of your school’s student body?  Inclusion is derived from the word “include”, which is defined as “to have as a part or member; to contain; to put into a group or total.”

Our schools are comprised of many different students from different households.  It is important for all PTA’s to reflect these differences.  Our state Membership Inclusion Committee is comprised of a cross section of the community:  men, women, single mothers, white and black members, as well as grandparents.

Look at your school community.  Some of the forgotten individuals who should be encouraged to join your PTA are grandparents, single parents, and men.

It is imperative that our children see the entire community working together to inspire, encourage, and motivate our children to succeed and become positive members of society.

Make it a point to have your PTA reflect your school community and all of the different individuals within your unit.
